Crash sends Kelowna cyclist to hospital
KELOWNA – A 61-year-old cyclist who was riding on the sidewalk and not wearing a helmet was sent to hospital yesterday when he collided with a car.
The Kelowna man was riding southbound on the sidewalk in the 500 block of Harvey Avenue shortly before 11 p.m., Aug. 29, according to a media release from Const. Jesse O’Donaghey. The cyclist collided with a car that was in the process of turning right onto Harvey from a parking lot.
He was taken to Kelowna General Hospital with what O'Donaghey described as moderate, non life-threatening injuries.
The 19-year-old driver, a Kelowna woman, remained at the scene.
“RCMP would like to remind cyclists to wear a helmet that fits and ride with the flow of traffic, never against,“ O’Donaghey says. “It’s equally important to ensure that you are clearly visible to drivers, this can be achieved by wearing bright reflective clothing, by displaying a white light to the front of you bicycle and a red light to the rear.”
