Ex-chief in Uzi death case hospitalized; sentencing delayed

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – A former Massachusetts police chief acquitted of manslaughter after an 8-year-old fatally shot himself with an Uzi has been hospitalized following his conviction on unrelated firearms offences.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/2fGD3jW) Pelham Chief Edward Fleury was taken to the hospital Friday after he failed to take his insulin medication. It came just hours before he was slated to appear in court for his sentencing. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday.

A jury on Thursday found Fleury guilty of 12 counts of improperly storing a firearm and not guilty of 10 others. Investigators in 2014 say they found 22 unsecured guns in his home.
