No fishing in Salmon Arm Bay on Shuswap Lake

SALMON ARM – Fishing in Salmon Arm Bay on Shuswap Lake will no longer be allowed due to low water levels in the area.

The dry weather and high temperatures have lowered water levels in Salmon River, making it difficult for fish to spawn, according to a press release from the Minisry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.

The province will close close all angling in Salmon Arm Bay on Shuswap Lake starting Sept. 3, this coming Saturday.

The closure aims to help protect the chinook and coho salmon gathering in the bay about to swim up the Salmon River.

The area closed is southwest of Engineer’s Point and Sunnybrae Point, and will remain cosed until December 2016, according to the release.

The closure follows a similar ban on fishing on the Coldwater and Nicola rivers.
