Cirque ‘Avatar’-themed show ‘Toruk’ to premiere in Montreal in December

BOSSIER CITY, La. – Cirque du Soleil says its new “Avatar”-themed show “TORUK — The First Flight” will premiere in Montreal on Dec. 21.

The Montreal acrobatic theatre troupe says preview performances start Nov. 12 in Bossier City, La., where media got a sneak peek on Wednesday.

Written and directed by Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon, the show is inspired by Canadian director James Cameron’s 2009 Oscar-winning fantasy adventure “Avatar.”

It’s described as a “live immersive multimedia spectacle” with “cutting-edge visuals, puppetry and stagecraft buoyed by a soaring cinematic score.”

The mythical tale is set thousands of years before the events depicted in “Avatar,” before any humans ever set foot on Pandora.

Cirque says the show will tour to arenas around the world.
