Five TRU students injured in high-speed crash

KAMLOOPS – High speed was a factor in a single-vehicle crash today in Aberdeen.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP, Kamloops Fire Rescue and the B.C. Ambulance Service were called to the 1900 block of Hillside Drive.

Cpl. Stephen Newport says in a media release that a Ford Fiesta driving at a high rate of speed lost control and hit the ditch as it entered a tight corner.

Five female students were taken to Royal Inland Hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

All five occupants were 18 to 20-year-old female international students at TRU, Newport says.

One of the passengers was trapped in the vehicle and had to be removed by Kamloops Fire Rescue.

Police say the 18-year-old driver is charged with Driving without Due Care and Attention under the Motor Vehicle Act. .
