Wildfire near Lytton now 75 per cent contained, evacuation alerts rescinded
LYTTON – A wildfire burning near Lytton is now 75 per cent contained and the evacuation alerts in the area will be rescinded this morning.
B.C. Wildfire Service fire information officer Max Birkner says the South Spencer Road fire is no longer posing a threat to homes.
"That is the highest containment figure we’re going to reach on this fire," Birkner says.
Since a portion of the fire is burning in remote areas, crews will monitor the blaze but are putting the focus on protecting structures.
The evacuation alerts were to be rescinded at 9:30 a.m. this morning, Sept. 6.
Birkner says a large amount of rain and extra crews have been key in fighting the fire.
"The weather’s been helping quite a lot," Birkner says. "There’s been a lot of firefighters working on that fire."
