Property owner arrested after firing gun to scare lost campers

KELOWNA – Firearm charges are likely after police say an armed man fired a gun into the ground when a father and son stumbled onto his property.

During the late evening hours of Aug. 27 Kelowna RCMP were called to a report of a trespassing incident in the Postill Lake area.

Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release a property owner confronted two people on his property. According to a media release the 33-year-old property owner allegedly fired the gun into the ground.

“Police spoke to the two males a father and son, who appeared to be fully equipped for camping in the area,” Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release. “Police learned from the men that one of them sustained non-life threatening injuries after allegedly being assaulted by the property owner.”

The release does not list the nature of the injuries but says the property owner was taken into custody and will appear in court at a later date.

“Investigators gathered evidence to support possible charges against the property owner, including assault, utter threats and firearms related offences,” O’Donaghey says.
