Man injured in Okanagan Falls logging road crash spotted by samaritan

OKANAGAN FALLS – Police say a man is lucky to have been spotted by a fellow motorist after sustaining a head injury and walking away from a single vehicle collision on a remote logging road last weekend.

Penticton RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says on Sunday, Sept. 4 around 8:30 a.m. police received a report from a motorist about a vehicle off the road in a creek at the 21 kilometre mark of the 201 Forest Service Rd. east of Penticton.

There was no one in the unsecured vehicle.

The motorist then came across a man walking along the road in a camouflage jacket, carrying a knife, on the road near Okanagan Falls, Wrigglesworth says. When asked if he was all right, the man simply brandished the knife and said, “no talk.”

The motorist notified police, who attended the area and found the man not far from the intersection of Allendale Road and the 201. He appeared to have a head injury and was not making any sense, holding the knife and muttering something about dogs.

The man was taken into custody and taken to Highway 97 where police met with B.C. Ambulance paramedics. He was taken to hospital for treatment and his family notified.

Wrigglesworth says the police investigation revealed the man appeared to miss a curve and his vehicle ended up in a creek. He may have been on a hunting trip.

He says no charges are being contemplated in the incident.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
