Doggone tricky: Jeter slips engagement announcement in website post about his Italian mastiff

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Former New York Yankees star Derek Jeter has introduced his dog Kane to the world in a post on his website, The Players’ Tribune — oh, he also slipped into the essay he’s engaged.

A slick trick play by the 14-time All-Star shortstop.

Notoriously private throughout a 20-year career that ended after the 2014 season, Jeter revealed Tuesday the almost 100-pound, 1-year-old Italian mastiff was a “gift last year from my fiancee.”

The 41-year-old Jeter never names the woman to whom he is engaged in the story, but it’s been well documented that he’s been dating Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Hannah Davis, 25, for quite some time.

Throughout his playing career, Jeter was linked to stars Mariah Carey, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel and Minka Kelly among others, but he always remained one of New York’s most eligible bachelors.

Jeter rarely gave media revealing answers to questions during his baseball career. When he retired, he made the announcement in a Facebook post.
