7 Maryland students disciplined for racial slur photo

BEL AIR, Md. – Seven Maryland high school students have been disciplined for creating a photo that spells out a racial slur.

A spokeswoman for Harford County Public Schools declined to say what type of discipline the students received, citing confidentiality policies.

Spokeswoman Jillian Lader told The Baltimore Sun that six students posed for the photo and a seventh took the photo in the school library. The students spelled out a slur against African-Americans by holding up or pinning oversized letters to their shirts.

In the photo, posted on social media, the faces of the six students were scribbled over with black markings.

Lader told the newspaper in an email that “this behaviour is not and will not be tolerated,” and wasn’t representative of students and the school system.
