UPDATE: Woman with three toddlers struck by car while crossing Vernon intersection

VERNON – A daycare worker and three toddlers were taken to hospital today after being hit by a car.

The woman was pushing a stroller with the three children across the intersection of 43 Street and 25 Avenue when they were struck by a turning vehicle, Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says in a media release.

The collision happened just before 10 a.m. Sept. 9 when the 22-year-old driver of a blue 2012 Ford Focus was making a lefthand turn and collided with the woman and kids. The man, whose vehicle is registered in B.C., was travelling at a low rate of speed, Moskaluk says.

The woman and toddlers were all taken to hospital following the crash. As of Friday afternoon, one child had been airlifted to Vancouver. Another child suffered mild scrapes and bruises, and the third was not injured. The woman suffered a leg injury.

Moskaluk says they were on the crosswalk when they were hit, but adds police are still looking into what the lights were at the time of the collision.

Police continue to investigate and have spoken to some witnesses. Anyone who saw the crash and hasn’t spoken to police yet is asked to contact the Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171.
