Source: final decision on expansion not expected at December board meeting

The NHL’s board of governors will not make a final decision on expansion at its annual December meeting, a source told The Canadian Press.

The league has said there is no timeline on its expansion process.

Representatives from Quebecor and Bill Foley’s Black Knight Sports and Entertainment made presentations on expanding to Quebec City and Las Vegas at the board’s September meeting in New York.

The executive committee was set to review those cases, something that could happen when the board meets Dec. 7 and 8 in Pebble Beach, Calif.

If the NHL expands, either by one or two teams, it would happen for the 2017-18 season.
