Bank closure in Penticton sign of changing customer needs

PENTICTON – Changing customer banking habits are behind the recent closure of a Scotiabank branch in Penticton.

Scotiabank closed its Penticton South branch at Warren Avenue and Main Street on Sept. 2, consolidating the services with the main branch downtown.

Bank spokesperson Kate Simandl says banking customers are increasingly using online and mobile services to do their banking.

She says the bank carefully reviews its branch network, the number of customers served and the way customers are doing their banking, noting over 80 per cent of all transactions in Canada occur outside the branch.

“We do not make these decisions lightly. We remain committed to providing our customers with the highest quality advice and and service,” she says.

Penticton’s downtown branch of Scotiabank has increased its hours of operation in addition to adding Saturday banking hours at that location.
