Women’s soccer’s W-League folds, ending 21-year run
TAMPA, Fla. – Women’s soccer’s W-League has folded.
The W-League said Friday that it will cease operations ahead of the 2016 season, though it hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning at some point.
The league began play in 1995 and was the longest-running professional women’s league in North America. It had 18 teams in the United States and Canada last season.
The Washington Spirit Reserves won the title in July, beating the Colorado Pride 2-1 in Laval, Quebec.
