Child struck by car on crosswalk near Armstrong school

ARMSTRONG – A child was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries after being hit by a car near Highland Park Elementary School in Armstrong yesterday morning.

The collision happened in the morning, Sept. 13, at a crosswalk on Wood Avenue, Sgt. Kara Triance says.

The child was taken to hospital for observation and released the same day having suffered no serious injuries as a result of the crash.

The driver was cooperative and extremely apologetic, Triance says, adding the individual was not speeding.

“Sun was a factor in the collision,” she says.

The driver was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian at a crosswalk.

Police are reminding drivers that school is back in session and roads are busy.

“Drive safely and take all the proper precautions,” Triance says.

North Okanagan RCMP are stepping up enforcement operations in school zones this month as students transition back to class, so you can expect to see a few more officers on your commute.
