Stanley Cup on route to Lumby for Hockeyville celebration

VERNON – An iconic sports trophy is taking a trip to Lumby.

The Stanley Cup will be on display in Lumby’s Oval Park during next month’s Hockeyville celebration, according to a media release.

You’ll be able to see Lord Stanley's mug — and have your photo taken with it if you like — between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1.

That evening, as part of the community celebration, Vernon native Tom Kowal will lead an NHL Officials Clinic at Pat Duke Memorial Arena. Local referees have been selected to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime experience and learn from a team of NHL officials in both an off-ice and on-ice training session.

Lumby was declared this year’s Hockeyville community following a national competition earlier this year. As the winner, Lumby was awarded $100,000 for upgrades at the aging Pat Duke Memorial Arena, and the honour of hosting an NHL pre-season game. That game, between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings, will happen Oct. 2 at Kal Tire Place in Vernon.

Here’s how you can get tickets to the Lumby Hockeyville NHL game.
