Kamloops temporarily dropped from NewLeaf airlines schedule

KAMLOOPS – Just a few months after arriving, NewLeaf is taking a break from Kamloops.

Kamloops Airport manager Fred Legace says the airline will be suspending its service to the city from November to mid-December.

“They’re looking at the service returning again in mid-December,” Legace says. “They’re winding up short of airplanes, I understand.”

In a brief to the airport, NewLeaf writes they’ll return for the holiday and winter season, Legace says, which is the busy season at the city’s airport.

“It’s not bad,” he says. “It lines up with our primary ski season.”

For now the airline is focusing on its core destinations with the fleet it has nowl, he says. Service will return, and may grow, as more planes come into the airline’s rotation. They’re also looking at adding American destinations to the schedule.

Legace is looking forward to the return of the flights from Kamloops to Victoria and Edmonton, and says the new airline is important to the Canadian market.

“They have brought new people to the aviation market,” he says. “I think having them around and having them be successful is really important.”

NewLeaf announced service to Kamloops in June and the first flight was on the August long weekend.
