West Kelowna trespasser picked the wrong house

'I KNEW HE WAS THERE.'

WEST KELOWNA – It’s probably the last property in West Kelowna Kelowna where you’d want to trespass.

The owner of a local company that installs security equipment for Kelowna General Hospital released some high resolution footage of a man he says came to his front door just after 3 a.m. yesterday, Sep. 15.

“I had something left over from the food bank drive on the door handle and I suspect he saw that from the curb and walked up to see what it was,” Smith Creek resident Steven Wright says. “He had a flashlight, cutters and what looked like a sawed-off rifle or gun. Then he turned around and saw the camera.”

Wright is the owner of Terracom Systems, which sets up communication, security and safety networks for Interior Health, KGH and others.

He declined to comment on the extent of his own personal security system but says he doesn’t take chances and is glad the man left without trying to get inside.

“My kids were sleeping in the room on the other side of that window,” he says. "I knew he was there."

Wright says he decided to make the video public to warn other residents of Smith Creek in West Kelowna. The video has been viewed more than 4,400 times.

“I don’t think I was the sole target,” he says.

RCMP are investigating.
