Off-road racing event coming to SilverStar

VERNON – An exciting motocross event is about to debut at SilverStar Mountain Resort this year; the Motorcycle Hare Scramble and Enduro-Cross takes place Sept. 23 to 25.

This three-day event is expected to draw 200 riders from around B.C. and Alberta and is a spectator friendly event for anybody wanting to see some of the best off-road riders in the west.

A Hare Scramble is a form of off-road motorcycle racing that varies in distance and time, with the riders completing multiple laps around a marked course through wooded or other rugged natural terrain The course at SilverStar is 25km long.

The Enduro-Cross course, built specifically for this event incorporates various elements of off-road riding, including rocks, boulders, logs, and obstacles (like giant tires). The Enduro-Cross Head to Head taking place Saturday at 1:00 will have a $1000 payout. Awards events will be hosted at SilverStar’s Red Antler restaurant both Saturday and Sunday night.

A major highlight of the weekend will be a demonstration by Australian trials rider Sam King, taking place at noon on Saturday. Sam King is an Australian Junior Trials Champion, expert trials rider and placed third in the Canadian National Trials Championships.

Starting on Friday, Beta Canada will be onsite showcasing their 2017 models and offering the opportunity for the public to demo bikes on a section of the race loop. Saturday there is a family fun ride of the race course between 10 a.m. and noon ($20 Family/$10 Individual Admission). View the entire schedule online.

Organizer Andrew Christiansen, hopes this will become an annual event that grows year over year. Spectating at the event is free of charge; the public is invited to come up to and watch the events happening over the weekend. Shuttle service will be provided between the village and the course at parking lot E. Scenic chairlift rides, hiking, and summer tubing will also be operating at SilverStar Saturday and Sunday.
