UPDATE: Grass fire in West Kelowna under control

WEST KELOWNA – It looks like fire crews have a grass fire under control near the intersection of Highway 97 and Nancee Way in West Kelowna.

The fire was moving quickly toward the Nancee Way Village, but with a hose guard around 100 per cent of the blaze the homes are no longer threatened, according to recent reports.

The fire was initially 100 square metres in size and is about half a kilometre from the highway.

The blaze also threatened a hydro pole and other electrical equipment.

Unconfirmed reports said the fire was sparked by a flaming tire that came off a boat trailer and rolled into the ditch on Nancee Way.
