Say goodbye to the 58-year-old bridge on Highway 1 near Sicamous

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – The North Fork Bridge between Sicamous and Revelstoke is the last remaining bridge with a metal through truss on the Trans Canada Highway and it'll soon be replaced.

The 58-year-old North Fork Bridge over the Perry River has two narrow lanes, low clearance, and no shoulders. Construction to replace the structure will soon begin, according to a B.C. government media release.

Tybo Contracting Ltd. of Langley has the $15.7-million contract. The contract includes: the construction of a new four-lane bridge, expansion of a 3.8 kilometre stretch of highway, and the construction of 1.6 kilometres of frontage roads with improved intersections and median barrier.

Work is scheduled to begin later in the fall and is expected to be completed in 2018.
