Mosasaur from Morden in Manitoba makes it into Guinness record book
MORDEN, Man. – The Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre in Morden, Man., has secured a rare and coveted spot in the 60th anniversary edition of the Guinness World Records print book.
The 2016 print book features Bruce, the world’s longest publicly exhibited mosasaur, which is 13 metres long and is on display at the Morden centre.
While more than 65,000 records are submitted each year, only about 4,000 get into the print edition of the book.
Guinness publishes approximately 4 million copies annually in more than 37 languages.
“It was an amazing honour,” said executive director Peter Cantelon. “Knowing that millions of people all over the world are going to read about us, Morden, Manitoba and Canada makes us incredibly proud.”
The CFDC houses Canada’s largest collection of marine reptile fossils along with bird, plant and other fossils.
It also houses the world’s only publicly displayed vial of Woolly Mammoth blood and many other unique exhibits.
