Prescribed burn planned near Clemina in Clearwater area

KAMLOOPS – BC Wildfire Service crews will help BC Timber Sales staff conduct a prescribed burn near Clemina in the Clearwater Fire Zone. This 33-hectare burn will be completed between Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 15.

Smoke and flames may be visible from Highway 5 and the surrounding area. Trained staff from BC Timber Sales and the BC Wildfire Service will carefully monitor the fire at all times.

The burn site is in a harvested cutblock about 30 kilometres south of Valemount. This burn will reduce the amount of cedar and hemlock logging debris and help reduce the wildfire risk in the area. The block will be replanted in the spring of 2017.

The decision on when to proceed with this burn will depend on weather and site conditions. Such burns are only conducted when conditions are suitable and will allow for quick smoke dissipation and a "low" to "moderate" fire intensity.

To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation, call *5555 on your cellphone or 1 (800) 663-5555 toll-free.
