TORONTO – Concordia quarterback Trenton Miller and St. Francis Xavier running back Ashton Dickson were named the final nominees for the Hec Crighton Trophy on Friday, which is awarded to the most outstanding player in Canadian university football.
The Canada West and OUA recipients were announced Thursday, with quarterbacks Andrew Buckley from the University of Calgary — the 2014 winner — and Will Finch from Western University earning their league’s nomination for the Hec Crighton.
Miller, from Buffalo, N.Y., set single-season school records for touchdown passes (20) and completions (204), while leading the RSEQ in passing yards (2,384).
Dickson, from Ottawa, dominated the AUS conference in every major rushing category, including yards (866), yards per game (108.3), yards per carry (5.4), touchdowns (5) and carries (160).
Buckley, who won the Crighton last year, passed for a CIS-record 3,162 yards this season for the top-ranked Dinos.
Finch, meanwhile, helped the Mustangs established new CIS marks for points (494) and touchdowns (64) in a season, while averaging a whopping 729.5 yards of offence per game.
The CIS individual awards will be presented Nov. 26 in Quebec City, two days before the Vanier Cup.
