Summerland to be without running water for three days

SUMMERLAND – If you live in Summerland, you might want to plan a three-day vacation that starts March 2.

On Friday, March 3 at 9 p.m residents of the District of Summerland will be without water until 7 a.m. on March 6.

A media release from the District calls the extended shutoff period "mandatory" in order to maintain the water supply.

“The impact to the community should a failure be experienced would be catastrophic and there is no opportunity to complete the work without a water shut down,” it says.

Mayor Peter Waterman says finding a convenient time for project of this magnitude was extremely challenging.

“Effort was made to choose a date that was in a low season for water use and which did not conflict with any scheduled large community events,” he says. “The District will do all that we can to provide timely information to residents and businesses regarding this outage in March.”

Summerland will host several public information sessions leading up to the shutoff where residents can make suggestions and receive tips they may find helpful in preparation for the outage. 

“The District understands the significant impact that the outage will have on residents and businesses in Summerland,” the release says. “Efforts will be made to provide timely updates as more information becomes available.”
