Hot tub plumbing leak latest problem at Penticton Community Centre Pool

PENTICTON – Leaks continue to plague Penticton Community Centre Pool, which only recently reopened following an extended summer shutdown to make repairs earlier this year.

City of Penticton Facilities Manager Bregje Kozak says the city’s contractor performed a thermal scan of the hot tub at the pool yesterday, Sept. 26 and discovered a void beneath the slab, indicating a possible location of the facility’s current leak.

With the location now pinpointed, next steps include bringing in a structural engineer to assess whether the slab can be cut in order to dig down and expose the pipe to see exactly what is happening.

Kozak says the structural engineer is expected to be on site today, Sept. 27. No timelines for repairs are available yet but Kozak says the public will be kept up to date as information becomes available.

“The contractor has been working collaboratively with us and has taken responsibility for all the work to date, which we expect to continue,” Kozak says.

The hot tub is closed but the main pools are still open.

City staff and its contractors have had to deal with several problems involving the pool, including replacement of the main pool’s deck tiles and leaks in the main pool drains that resulted in extended summer shut downs for the last two years.
