Kelowna’s top cop won’t be returning to work

KELOWNA – The superintendent for the Kelowna RCMP has retired.

“Nick Romanchuk had taken time off since early September and he decided to retire from the RCMP on Monday September 26, 2016,” Staff Sgt. Rob Vermeulen says in an email.

No reason was given for the sudden departure on Sept. 6, when Insp. Brent Mundle was named interim regional detachment commander.

Vermeulen says Mundle will continue filling in until a new detachment commander is chosen.

Romanchuk took the job in 2013 when he came from the Kootenays where he was in charge of the regional detachment.
