Injured mountain biker rescued in Kelowna

KELOWNA – A helicopter was called in to transport a rescued mountain biker to hospital in Kelowna last night.

Rescue crews were called at about 5:30 p.m., Sept. 27, to the Crawford trails area after a report of an injured mountain biker.

“Access to the patient was made with the fire department’s UTV Gator but due to the nature of the patients injuries and the rough trail it was decided that a helicopter rescue would be best,” Platoon Capt. Steve Wallick says in a media release.

Wallick says time was also a factor because rescuers were running out of daylight.

Firefighters along with search and rescue volunteers managed to get the injured man to a landing zone where a Wildcat helicopter took him to Kelowna General Hospital.

No word on the man’s condition this morning.
