Penticton and area weekend events take on a fall festive flavour

PENTICTON – The first annual Penticton Fall Fair takes place Friday and Saturday in Penticton.

The event in Gyro Park takes place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct.1.

Free entertainment includes a petting zoo, pony rides, a hay maze, pumpkin patch and carnival games. There’s also a beverage garden with the best Bad Tattoo Brewing has to offer.

It’s wine harvest time, which also means it’s time for the Oliver’s annual Festival of the Grape, taking place on Sunday, Oct. 2.

The annual wine festival in Oliver, which attracts 3,500 people annually, provides attendees with an opportunity to sample the region’s wines, enjoy grandstand music, and watch or compete in the Grape Stomp. Those interested in registering a team for the Grape Stomp are advised to register soon, as there is limited space. More than 50 wineries were present at last year’s event.

Festival of the Grape also features local artisans displaying their crafts in the art gallery, in addition to a kids zone. Food vendors will also be set up on site.

Tickets are $25 when purchased in advance, available online, at the Oliver Visitor Centre, Oliver Shoppers Drug Mart, and Osoyoos Imperial Office Pro. Advance ticket sales have been brisk this year, with more than 1,000 sold. Tickets purchased at the gate are $30.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
