KELOWNA – Apparently, quaffing ale outside the RCMP detachment in broad daylight is frowned upon.

Two summer workers, one from Ontario and another from New Zealand, found that out the hard way while "kocking back cold ones from an open six pack" and posing for pictures by the RCMP sign in front of the Doyle Avenue detachment yesterday. A few people coming and going from the building complained to staff.

Confronted by an officer, the pair pled ignorance of the law pertaining to consuming alcohol in public, but admitted they knew it was illegal in their own home towns.

The men were then told to pour out their remaining suds and were served tickets for consuming alcohol in public which carries a fine of $230.

"We continually remind the public, especially during the summer months, that our members will ticket those who commit offenses under the Liquor Control and Licencing Act," RCMP Const. Steve Holmes stated in a press release, "whether it happens on the beach, on the street, or even in front of the RCMP detachment."
