Canadian midfielder Kwame Awuah leads UConn to win in NCAA soccer tournament

STORRS, Conn. – Toronto midfielder Kwame Awuah had two goals and an assist to lead the University of Connecticut to a 3-1 win over Boston University on Thursday in first-round NCAA men’s soccer tournament play.

The Huskies, who trailed 1-0 at the half, advance to face No. 16 Indiana.

Awuah, a Huskies co-captain, set up DeAndrae Brown via a cross for the tying goal.

Awuah and former UConn striker Cyle Larin, a native of Brampton, Ont., who was recently named MLS rookie of the season, both graduated from the Toronto-area Sigma FC academy to play for the Huskies.

Awuah and SMU’s John Lujano recently shared American Athletic Conference midfielder of the year honours, as voted on by the league’s eight head coaches.
