Two hurt in fiery crash on the Trans-Canada Highway in Kamloops, B.C.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Traffic is moving again after a pickup ran into the back of a tanker truck, causing a fire that closed the Trans-Canada Highway through Kamloops, B.C.

Assistant Fire Chief Dave McMahon of Kamloops Fire Rescue says the pickup truck slammed into the back of a tanker rig at around 5:30 a.m.

McMahon says crews put out the flames, but closed the road and began evacuating nearby homes over concern that the valve system at the rear of the tanker may have been compromised.

The all-clear was given a little over three hours later.

Two people were taken to hospital with what the B.C. Ambulance Service described as fairly serious injuries, but the driver of the tanker truck was not hurt.

RCMP are investigating the cause of the crash. (CFJC)
