Blue Jays acquire Jesse Chavez from A’s in exchange for Liam Hendriks

TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays have traded for some pitching depth for their starting rotation, acquiring right-hander Jesse Chavez from Oakland in exchange for right-hander Liam Hendriks.

The deal was announced Friday night.

Chavez made 30 appearances, including 26 starts for the Athletics last season, going 7-15 with a 4.18 earned-run average and setting career-highs in games started, innings pitched (157.0) and equalling his best strikeout total (136).

Over his past two seasons Chavez has posted a 3.83 ERA after recording a 5.48 ERA in his first six years in the majors.

He returns to Toronto after appearing in nine games for the Blue Jays (two starts) during the 2012 season.

Hendriks is 8-15 with a 5.15 ERA over his major league career (97 games, 34 starts).
