NYON, Switzerland – UEFA says it banned Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Arijan Ademi for four years after he tested positive for doping at a Champions League match.
Ademi tested positive for a substance that has not been identified after playing in Dinamo’s 2-1 win against Arsenal on Sept. 16.
It will not affect the result as UEFA rules allow it to stand if only one player in a team is caught doping.
The 24-year-old Ademi has denied deliberately doping and claimed he took a dietary supplement that was contaminated.
Dinamo said in a statement late Friday that it would appeal.
Ademi was a Croatia international but played only friendly matches before being left out of the 2014 World Cup squad. He then switched eligibility to Macedonia.
