Date set for B.C. Liberal candidate selection meeting in Kamloops-North Thompson

KAMLOOPS – The B.C. Liberal Party has set a date to select a candidate to run in the riding of Kamloops-North Thompson in MLA Terry Lake's stead.

Party members will select a candidate on Nov. 19, according to a B.C. Liberal media release. Liberals will select on of three candidates: Kamloops mayor Peter Milobar, North Shore Business Improvement Association executive director Steven Puhallo or Tobiano developer Michael Grenier.

Terry Lake announced on Sept. 1 he would not be running in the May 2017 provincial election. The three local men have all announced they wish to follow in Lake’s footsteps.

The decision will be made by members of the riding association, the release states. The cut off for new members allowed to participate in the vote is Oct. 21. Location and times for the vote on Nov. 19 are still to come.

Three other parties have confirmed candidates for the riding, which covers north Kamloops and communities along the North Thompson River including Barriere, Sun Peaks and Blue River.

B.C. NDP candidate Barbara Nederpel, B.C. Green Party candidate Dan Hines and Communist Party of B.C. candidate Peter Kerek are running in the riding.

The provincial election is on May 9, 2017.
