Memorial Cup winning player honoured
KELOWNA – Apparently winning back-to-back Memorial Cups will get you into B.C. Hockey Hall of Fame.
Kelowna Rockets head coach Ryan Huska grabbed that honour Friday night in Penticton. He and the other players on the team were officially inducted into the hall.
Huska was on the Kamloops Blazer team that won the Memorial Cup in 1994 and 1995.
The team was coached by Don Hay, while Bob Brown was the general manager.
Huska shares the honour with teammates Darcy Tucker, Jarome Iglina, Shane Doan, Hnat Domenichelli, Nolan Baumgartner and Jason Strudwick.
The Cranbrook native won three Memorial Cups during his time with the Blazers and a fourth as the assistant coach of the Kelowna Rockets in 2004. He has been the bench boss for the last six seasons with the Rockets.
With Huska as head coach, the team has never finished below .500. In fact, last season, he lead the team to a 52-wins, the most wins ever for Kelowna.
