Kelowna Rockets acquire 17-year-old prospect

KELOWNA – The Kelowna Rockets have acquired a 17-year-old prospect in a trade with the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The Rockets have acquired the rights to Leif Mattson (1999 birth year), a 6-foot, 180 pound right winger, currently playing with the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL.

In exchange for Mattson, the Rockets have sent Brandon a 9th round WHL Bantam Draft pick in 2017. If Mattson plays with the Rockets this season, Kelowna will surrender an 8th round pick in 2017.

A native of Thompson, MB, Mattson played the majority of last year with the St. Albert Raiders midget AAA team, scoring 12 goals and 13 assists in 30 games in the Alberta Midget Hockey League.

In five games with Drumheller this season in the AJHL, he has two goals and one assist.
