UPDATE: Canada Post building evacuated, again

KELOWNA – The employees at the Canada Post delivery sorting centre north of downtown were evacuated after a leaky package of a granular white substance was found Monday morning.

The fire department’s HAZMAT team, along with RCMP and B.C. Ambulance paramedics, were called to 750 Baillie Rd. at 7:18 a.m.

It turns out the mysterious substance was a laundry product, Biokleen Chlorine Free Oxygen Bleach Plus.

“Fire command, RCMP and the Canada Post representative jointly investigated who had sent the package and who was receiving the package,” platoon captain Tim Light said in a media release. “Through conversations with both parties there was a sense that there was no malicious intent.”

Eight of the employees who came into contact with the mysterious substance were isolated as a precaution.

No one was hurt and all the workers are back on the job after the extended coffee break.

This is the third false alarm at the Canada Post sorting centre this year.
