KELOWNA – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 1-0 on Friday night at Rogers Place in Edmonton, in the midst of a three game trip through the WHL Central Division.
Michael Herringer made 38 saves to record his first shut-out of the season as the Rockets improved to 3-4-0-0 on the season with its second straight win.
Calvin Thurkauf scored the winning goal midway through the third period, firing home his third goal of the season.
The Oil Kings outshot the Rockets 38-34 in the game but couldn’t beat Herringer, who recorded his fourth career shutout.
Neither team could score on the power play as the Rockets were 0-for-4 with the man advantage while holding Edmonton to 0-for-5.
The Rockets close out this road trip Saturday night in Red Deer and return to Prospera Place Oct. 14 and 15, to play Saskatoon and Swift Current.
