Ottawa Redblacks’ Rick Campbell named CFL’s coach of the year

WINNIPEG – Rick Campbell of the Ottawa Redblacks is the CFL’s coach of the year.

Campbell was honoured Thursday at the CFL awards banquet, receiving 54-of-75 first-place ballots in voting by the Football Reporters of Canada.

Chris Jones of the Edmonton Eskimos was the award finalist.

Campbell guided Ottawa to first place in the East Division with a 12-6 record after winning just twice in Campbell’s first season as head coach.

Under Jones, Edmonton was tied with Calgary for the league’s best mark of 14-4 but secured top spot in the West after winning the season series.

Ottawa and Edmonton will square off Sunday in the Grey Cup game.
