BAT ASSAULT: Man accused of beating Kamloops teen with bat faces another charge

KAMLOOPS – The man accused of beating a teenager over the head with a baseball bat is now facing an additional charge.

Kristopher Teichrieb, 39, was already charged with attempted murder in connection with an assault against 18-year-old Jessie Simpson. According to court documents, he's also been charged with assault with a weapon.

Teichrieb appeared by video in Kamloops Provincial Court today, Oct. 13, but his arraignment hearing was pushed over to later this month.

Friends and family have said Simpson was leaving a graduation party in June of this year when he ended up on Teichrieb's property in Brocklehurst. Teichrieb allegedly came outside with a baseball bat and struck him over the head.

Simpson has been in a medically-induced coma ever since.

Teichrieb was denied bail by a provincial court judge in July and has changed legal counsel since then. The details of the bail hearing cannot be published due to a court ordered publication ban. Friends and family of Simpson who have attended the court hearings have expressed frustration about the delays and adjournments.

He's expected to appear in court on Oct. 27 for an arraignment hearing, when an accused typically enters a plea.
