UPDATE: Wildfire near Armstrong under control

Firefighters have a Spallumcheen blaze well under control and have called off helicopters and air tankers. One attack crew made up of three firefighters remains on site, ensuring the ten by three metre fire is fully extinguished.

"The fire was actually smaller than we initially thought," Melissa Welsh, with B.C.  Wildfire says. "It's mostly smoke now."

ARMSTRONG – A small wildfire just off Powerhouse Road has the attention of the B.C. Wildfire Management Branch.

A spokesperson for the branch, Melissa Welsh, says four firefighters, one intial attack crew and one forest officer along with a helicopter are currently battling a wildfire measuring just under one hectare. There are stuctures in the area and the fire is burning in heavy timber which Welsh says is a dense fuel source. An airtanker has been deployed from Kamloops and will arrive shortly.

The fire was reported just before 8 a.m. Welsh says she can't comment on the behaviour of the fire just yet.
