Inn attached to lighthouse for sale, lighthouse not included

ISLE AU HAUT, Maine – A picturesque Maine island inn is now up for sale, but it doesn’t include an attached lighthouse that’s a popular tourism magnet.

The inn property on Isle Au Haut once served as the lighthouse keeper’s residence is being sold for about $2 million. The Bangor Daily News reports the lighthouse — which still shines at night — tends to attract tourists who will walk across private property for a look at the beacon.

Former inn owner Jeffrey Burke says it is a fact of life that people who aren’t inn guests will try to get a look at the historic lighthouse.

The lighthouse is not open to the public and the town hopes to go out for bids this fall for renovations.
