P.E.I. premier presses Transport Canada, company to move on ferry service

CHARLOTTETOWN – P.E.I. Premier Wade MacLauchlan says the federal government has to do more to address the troubled ferry service between the Island and Nova Scotia.

MacLauchlan says he’s working with Transport Canada and the company running the ferries, but that they have shown little initiative in dealing with the problem.

He says the ferry is a critical transport and economic link between P.E.I. and the mainland, but have suffered since one of the vessels was taken out of service for repairs.

MacLauchlan says he is “disappointed” with the response by Northumberland Ferries and Transport Canada to deal withthe reduced service.

He adds the decreased crossings are affecting trade and tourism.
