New webcam at West Kelowna’s CNR wharf

WEST KELOWNA – One of West Kelowna’s most popular destinations can now be seen live around the world courtesy of a new web cam at CNR Wharf.

The camera was installed at the end of summer at the completely restored and award winning historical landmark, which is sometimes referred to as the “old ferry dock.” The web cam is set up to capture a full view of the wharf and a glimpse of the panoramic lake and mountain views in the background. CNR Wharf is a popular spot for photography, sightseeing, fitness breaks, fishing, swimming and even a wedding proposal now and then. Occasionally, an eagle or osprey may even take advantage of the wharf’s twin towers to watch for passing fish.

The wharf is one of the community’s most recognizable landmarks and has been an economic and recreational hub since it was built in 1930. The site was the first to be listed on West Kelowna’s Heritage Register; and in 2014 the city restored the entire structure preserving its historical character throughout the rehabilitation process. As part of the restoration project, the city added special features, such as a zip line, to create added recreational amenities for youth.

In February 2015, the Central Okanagan Heritage Society recognized the City of West Kelowna’s restoration efforts by awarding the CNR Wharf Upgrade with the Special Heritage Project Award.
