$15 million South Carolina science centre expansion begins

GREENVILLE, S.C. – An upstate South Carolina school district has started work on a new $15 million building at its science centre.

WSPA-TV reports the Greenville County school district is constructing a building that will house exhibits on the water cycle and sustainable living, plus a cafeteria and several classrooms.

The building is supposed to be complete in fall 2020 and replaces an unused outdoor amphitheatre.

The science centre is owned by the school district, which is providing $12 million in funding. The Roper Mountain Science Center Association has raised the other $3 million privately.

Exhibits were designed in collaboration with the Shi Center for Sustainability.

The science centre already has an observatory, planetarium, living history farm and other exhibit buildings.
