NEW YORK, N.Y. – Krisztian Nemeth of Sporting Kansas City has claimed Major League Soccer’s goal of the year over Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco.
The Hungarian international forward won in a fan vote for a stylish individual effort in a 1-0 road win over the Portland Timbers on Oct. 3.
Nemeth emerged the winner in a new bracket-style competition featuring 64 goals.
Giovinco, who reached the final for a similar goal against the New York Red Bulls in October, does not leave empty-handed, however.
He won MVP honours Thursday and was previously chosen the league’s top newcomer and a member of the league’s Best XI. He also won the Golden Boot as the league’s top scorer.
