PENTICTON – Penticton City council will look at a request to provide free transportation to athletes and volunteers participating in next year’s Penticton Multisport World Championships Festival at today's council meeting.
Cathy Walker with Multisport cites limited downtown parking and road closures for the race as reasons for the request.
Walker has presented a tentative schedule for the 10 day event which includes the anticipated number of participants and volunteers for each race.
Up to 3,000 participants and 1,000 volunteers are expected at the long distance triathlon and aqua bike world championships, scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017.
Walker notes that it is not expected all of the athletes and volunteers will be accommodated, adding an event related wristband could be used to identify athletes and volunteers to bus drivers.
