JEM Raw Chocolate issues nationwide recall of its full line of nut butter spreads
BEND, Ore. – A Bend, Oregon, company is issuing a nationwide voluntary recall of its nut butter spreads because they could be contaminated with salmonella.
There have been 11 illnesses connected to those who ate JEM Raw Chocolate nut spreads, but no one has been hospitalized.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
The recalled products were distributed in retail stores and through mail order between June and November.
JEM Raw is working with distributors and retailers to remove the products from shelves. Consumers should discard any product and its container. The company says it will work directly with each customer to replace product.
