DHX Media, DreamWorks in 5-year deal to co-produce animated children’s TV fare

HALIFAX – DHX Media has struck a five-year agreement with DreamWorks Animation to co-produce 130 episodes of original animated children’s content at DHX Studios.

Content under the deal will air on DHX Television’s suite of channels, which includes Family Channel, Family Jr., Family CHRGD and Telemagino.

DHX Media (TSX:DHX.A, TSX:DHX.B) will handle distribution of the content in Canada and DreamWorks will cover the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, DHX Media says it has licensed more than 1,000 half-hours of television programming from DreamWorks Animation (Nasdaq:DWA), that will start airing as early as June.

Series coming to the network include “All Hail King Julien,” “The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show,” and spinoffs of the films “The Croods” and “How to Train Your Dragon” — all of which are currently available on Netflix.

DHX has also entered into an agreement with AwesomenessTV, majority owned by DWA, to license 300 half-hours of teen content for exclusive broadcast in Canada on Family Channel.
